Just finished a week of rewiring a 1920s house in Portland and the old knob and tube was a real education.

What exactly makes it so bad? I'm in an old building and the outlets are so loose plugs just fall out. @tessagerson mentioned how things are built now, but this feels like a different problem. My place has that old cloth covered wiring, and the whole system can't handle a space heater and the microwave at the same time. It's like living with a bunch of random rules nobody wrote down.
