PSA: Buzzing patio lights at a friend's cookout led to a safety lesson

At a summer cookout, my friend's outdoor lights were making a strange buzzing sound. I quickly checked and found loose terminal screws, so I showed him how to tighten them safely with the power off. What's your go-to move when someone asks for electrical advice in a casual setting?

That's a solid move with the terminal screws... but honestly, turning the power off at the breaker is the only real step one. A lot of folks just flip the light switch and think that's safe, which is a scary habit. I always tell people to treat every wire like it's live until you've personally killed the circuit. It’s just not worth the risk for a two minute fix.

Right, treating every wire like it's live. That's the only rule that matters. People get lazy because they've flipped a switch a hundred times and nothing happened. But that one time it's wired wrong, you're done. Why even play those odds? Just walk to the damn breaker box.

Wait, people actually just flip the light switch and call it safe? That's insane. I've seen some DIY shortcuts, but betting your life on a switch being wired right is next level.
