Fixed a busted power supply in my own workshop after 3 hours of head scratching
I was trying to get an old HP server running for a homelab project and the thing just wouldn't power on. Turned out a bulging capacitor on the PSU board was causing a short, but I spent way too long chasing a phantom fault on the motherboard first. Swapped in a new 470uF cap I had sitting around from a kit I got at Fry's back in 2019 and it fired right up. Anyone else keep old parts drawers full of random caps for that exact moment?

Heard a guy on a podcast say bad caps are the number one reason old gear dies. He called it the "capacitor plague" from the early 2000s. Looks like you got hit by it too.
