Found a dead short on a motherboard by checking the caps before anything else
Had this Asus board come in last week with no power at all. Skip the voltage rail testing and just run your finger over the ceramic caps until you feel one that's hot. Found a shorted cap near the SATA port in under 2 minutes. Anyone else got a faster trick for finding dead shorts?

Man, I once tried that trick and burned my finger so bad I thought I was cooking breakfast. Now I just use a thermal cam, but your method is way cheaper and probably more fun.
