Honestly thought the 'rice trick' for water damage was total nonsense until a phone I left in my pocket during a downpour actually booted after 48 hours in a bag of Uncle Ben's.

Silica gel worked for @gavin_clark but rice can leave starch dust inside.

My old laptop got soaked in a backpack. I put it in a tub of those little silica gel packets you get with new shoes. It dried out and worked for two more years. We dismiss a lot of simple fixes because they sound too folksy. But sometimes the cheap, obvious solution is the right one.
