I finally got a proper hot air station and it's a total game changer

Honestly, I was using a cheap $40 rework gun from Amazon for way too long. Switched to a Quick 861DW last month and the difference in board-level repair is huge, especially on those tiny iPhone power ICs. The temp control is just so much better and it doesn't blow parts off the board. Anyone else have a tool upgrade that felt like this?

Totally get it. Good tools just make the work feel easy.

Yeah, that part about not blowing parts off the board is so real. My friend had a similar upgrade story with his microscope. He was using a cheap loupe for years, struggling with surface mount stuff, and it was a total headache. Then he got a halfway decent stereo microscope, like the kind @allen.terry's buddy might use for those console pads. He said it was like someone finally turned the lights on, and he wasn't just guessing where his iron was anymore. The right tool just takes the fight out of the job.

Oh man, my buddy had the same thing happen with his soldering iron. He went from a basic pencil to a proper temp-controlled one and said it was like night and day, lol. Could finally fix his old game consoles without burning the pads.
