I miss how easy it was to figure out bad tubes (such a simple time!). Now, a cheap IR thermometer spots overheating parts. Makes my job faster.

Ugh, I'd probably still mess up the old tube method anyway. At least the thermometer gives my dumb hands a fighting chance. Modern tools are a mercy for people like me.

Right there with you. My grandpa showed me the old tube tapping method and I could never get the hang of it either. @torres.pat is totally right about modern tools being a mercy. That IR thermometer just tells you the answer straight up, no guesswork needed. It saves so much time and frustration on a busy day. I don't miss the old ways if they just meant more room for my own mistakes.
