That comment about 'just replace the whole board' really got under my skin
I was at a local repair shop in Portland last week, picking up parts (caps and diodes, boring stuff), and I overheard this guy telling a customer 'oh just swap the whole power board, it's faster and not worth diagnosing.' That just... stuck with me. I've been doing board-level repair for about 6 years now, and I know that advice saves time for some folks, but it also kills the skills to actually fix things. The customer walked out happy, sure, but I wonder if they ever learn to spot a blown regulator or a cracked solder joint. Has anyone else run into this attitude making it harder to find people who can do real component-level work?

Did you ever just swap the board before too?

Oh yeah, swapping boards is basically a rite of passage in this hobby. That voltage rating thing bit me once too - I swapped a board from an old TV into a car stereo once and the magic smoke came out REAL fast. The smell still haunts my garage honestly.
