That customer who argued about a 15 cent resistor swap still bothers me
A guy came into my shop in Phoenix last March with a dead microwave he pulled from a dumpster, and I fixed it in 10 minutes by replacing a blown resistor that cost me pocket change. He then refused to pay the $30 service fee because he said I didn't use a genuine part from the manufacturer. How do you deal with customers who don't understand that a generic resistor does the same job as a brand name one?

Did you charge less than $30? I had a guy haggle me down to $20 on a router repair once, then complain the replacement antenna wasn't "OEM" and demanded I spray paint it black. People just don't get how electronics actually work, do they?

Yeah @daniel552 I started telling people upfront 'no spray paint on electronics it'll mess up the heat vents' and that actually stopped a lot of complaints. I just say the paint traps heat and they usually back off.
