DAE keep seeing people overtighten the governor rope clamp and then wonder why the rope slips?

I watched a guy at a site in Tacoma crank it down so hard he stripped the threads, and the rope still wasn't secure because he didn't clean the sheave groove first.

Ever notice how some guys think more torque is always the answer? Saw a guy do the same thing, crushed the rope instead of fixing the real problem. It's like they forget the basics.

My uncle taught me to use a simple bowline knot for that exact problem.

That Tacoma story is brutal, but I see it all the time. Last month a guy on my crew cranked a clamp until the bolt snapped, and we had to stop the whole job. It's like they think the rope will magically stick to grease and grit if they just squeeze hard enough. Clean the groove first, it's not a secret.
