Got a call for a stuck car in a 20 story building downtown last month. The service logs showed the same fault code cleared three times that week. The super just kept resetting it!

My old apartment building had a super like that. He'd just reset the elevator alarm every time it beeped. It finally got stuck between floors with a tenant inside, and the fire department had to cut the door. The building got fined for skipping the real repair.

Honestly that part about the mental block is so true. I read an article once that called it the "band-aid bias," where people keep using cheap temporary fixes because the real repair feels too big or expensive. It just ends up costing more when everything finally breaks for good.

Reminds me of a guy I knew who kept hitting the reset button on his furnace every winter instead of getting it fixed. Burned the whole control board out one January, cost him way more than an actual service call would have. Some people just have a mental block about calling a pro, even when the same problem keeps coming back. They'd rather waste hours messing with a quick fix that never lasts.
