Had a convo with an old timer that made me rethink my whole approach to leveling
Was swapping war stories with a retired mechanic named Jerry at a supply house in Cleveland last Tuesday. He told me he never used laser levels on high-rise jobs because "the building moves more than the guide rail does." I laughed at first but then he showed me his old school plumb bob setup he still uses on his home elevator project. He said he watched three different crews re-level a bank of cars over six years because they trusted the laser on a windy day. I always thought lasers were the gold standard but now I keep a plumb bob in my bag just to double check. Anyone else ever get humbled by an old trick like that?

Old tools just don't need batteries to be right.

Riverhill's got it right, old tools don't need batteries to be right. I learned that the hard way when my laser died mid-job and I had to eyeball a level with a wet finger and a prayer. @riverhill, you're speaking my language on that.
