Had a door operator gear strip on a 15 year old unit last Thursday

It was a Dover Miconic, the main drive gear just gave out during a normal close cycle. I was on a call for a stuck car, and when I got it moving, the door wouldn't shut right, just a loud grinding. Had to pull the whole operator to replace the gear assembly, took about four hours with the travel time for the part. Anyone run into these older Miconic gears failing like this recently?

Watching stuff like that fail makes you notice it everywhere. My old coffee maker just quit heating one morning, no warning. Even the zipper on my favorite jacket gave out last week. It's like all the little things built the same year are sending out their retirement notices at once. You start listening for the next grind or click that means another piece of the past is done.

Honestly I used to think those old Miconic gears were bulletproof. Seeing one strip out like that on a normal close really changed my mind. It's a good reminder that age gets everything in the end.
