PSA: Check your governor cable tension if your car is bouncing on the rails

Had a service call last Tuesday in an old building downtown. Car was shaking bad on the way up. Thought it was guide shoes at first. Turned out the governor cable was loose and slapping the rail brackets. Tightened it up and the ride smoothed right out. Anyone else run into this on older setups?

Oh man, had that same thing happen on a 1980s Otis and tightening the cable fixed it right up.

Oh I saw a YouTube video about that, said loose cables cause like 90% of those issues. Glad yours was an easy fix!

And @bettyk53 is spot on about the loose cable thing, it's wild how such a tiny simple fix solves big problems in all kinds of stuff... reminds me of how a loose screw on a door hinge can make the whole thing jam up.
