A security researcher told me to stop using Telegram for sensitive chats

They said Telegram's default encryption isn't end-to-end for group chats. I ignored them for 6 months until a leak in a local activist group here in Bangkok proved them right - our DMs were exposed.

You manually turned on the secret chat mode? Most people dont even know that exists, which is exactly why Telegram is risky for sensitive stuff.

Yeah but honestly @lisa976 has a point about checking settings first. Most people don't realize you gotta tap that little lock icon in the top right to make sure the damn thing is actually encrypted.

Default encryption isn't end-to-end for group chats" - this got a buddy of mine in trouble. His local hiking group had a planning chat that got scraped and someone showed up with all their route details.

@kim_nelson is right about groups, but even the default DMs aren't great if you don't check the encryption settings first.
