Hot take: Setting up a secure chat felt like building a fort, now it's like locking down a bank
In my experience, years ago, messing with encryption tools was just about keeping my notes safe from my brother. Your mileage may vary, but these days, using something like Signal feels like a basic right under threat. Take this with a grain of salt, but I miss when privacy was a choice, not a constant fight. With new laws trying to peek into our chats, that old DIY spirit is what we need to hold onto. Without it, free expression worldwide takes a real hit.

Totally get that. The bank lock down feeling is because the stakes are higher now. Back then it was personal space, now it's about keeping whole communities safe from real world harm.

Remember when we just worried about someone reading our diary? @irist58, now I feel bad for getting mad about my sister borrowing my clothes.

Feel that shift from personal privacy to public safety myself. It's weird how our old worries feel small now, but they mattered too. Just shows how much the world has changed around us.
