I spent $60 on a secure messaging app subscription and it just locked me out of my own chats
I paid for a year of a popular encrypted app, thinking it would keep my group's planning safe. Last week, after a routine phone update, the app demanded a new verification I never set up. Customer support just sent a generic link to a FAQ about device changes. Now I've lost access to six months of important conversations about a local project. It feels like paying for privacy just bought me a stronger lockbox where I forgot the combination. Has anyone else been locked out by an app's own security features?

That "stronger lockbox" line is exactly it. You pay for the illusion of control, but really you're just trusting a different company with the only key. Their security becomes your problem when their system fails.

Wait they just sent you a FAQ link after you paid them $60? That's actually insane. You're a paying customer and that's the only help you get when their system locks you out.
