Local vote kept encryption safe, but my coffee group thinks it's a mistake
I watched the council meeting where they decided not to restrict encrypted apps. My friends say it's risky, but I see it as protecting how we speak online. Do you ever find it hard to explain why private messages matter?

Think about sending your bank info or talking to your doctor. You wouldn't want that on a postcard for anyone to see. Encryption is just the digital lock on that envelope. Your coffee group is worried about the wrong thing, the risk is letting that lock get weak. Trying to explain that to my own friends usually gets a blank stare lol.

Honestly though, how often does that actually happen to regular people? Feels like we're always told to panic about hackers, but my info's been out there for years and nothing bad occurred. Sure, maybe for huge companies it matters, but for my emails and stuff it seems overblown. The whole postcard thing is a scary picture, but I doubt anyone is actually reading my boring chats. It just gets tiring hearing we're all one weak lock away from disaster.
