My friend in Turkey said their group chat got shut down after they switched from WhatsApp to Signal.

They were just talking about local news, nothing crazy, but the old WhatsApp group ran fine for a year. After the switch last month, the whole chat got blocked and a few people got warnings. Is this just a coincidence or are some apps watched more closely now?

Honestly that sounds really suspicious, like not a coincidence at all. Tbh you hear a lot about certain apps getting more heat from governments. Did your friend mention if they were using a VPN when they switched to Signal, or was it just a straight swap on normal internet?

Nah, that seems like a stretch to me. Stuff like that happens all the time with regular internet hiccups. Jumping straight to government heat feels a bit paranoid without more to go on, lol.

Totally agree, that is way too weird to just be a random glitch. My cousin had the exact same thing happen last year, his WhatsApp just died the day after he sent some protest pics in a group chat. Straight swap to Signal on his normal home wifi, no VPN, and it worked fine. Makes you wonder what's getting flagged on the backend.
