Showerthought: I was at the library in Denver and saw a sign saying 'public computers monitored for security'

It made me think about how that kind of blanket policy could stop someone from looking up a sensitive health issue or contacting a lawyer. Has anyone else seen this in their local library?

...and that's exactly what bothers me about it. See, I live in a small town where everyone knows everyone, so if I'm the only person in the library looking up something like "how to leave an abusive relationship" or "what are my rights if I'm being evicted," that log is a pretty clear trail. So my question is, do you think the point of that sign is to actually catch people doing something wrong, or is it more about making people think twice before looking up anything that might make them look suspicious? Because those two things feel very different to me, and one of them really undermines the whole point of a public library in my opinion.

Wait, they actually put that on a sign? That feels like some dystopian library card scene straight out of a movie.
