Remember when we used to steam faces for a full 15 minutes before extractions?
I had a regular in 2010 who would always book the longest facial just for that step. Then around 2015, I went to a class in Chicago that showed how too much heat can actually hurt the skin barrier. Now I only steam for 3 to 5 minutes, depending on the skin type, and my results are way better. When did you all make that switch?

That line about the skin barrier in Chicago really got me. I was still doing the long steams for years after that, honestly. I saw a client with what looked like a heat rash and it finally clicked for me, that the old way was just too harsh. Cutting it way down made a huge difference in calming down sensitive skin types.

Remember seeing my own face look like a bad sunburn after a long steam. Totally get what @thompson.tara means about it being too harsh. I had to learn the hard way that less is more, especially when your skin is already throwing a fit. Cutting my routine down to basically just water for a week was the only thing that fixed it.
