Appreciation post: My old rounding hammer finally gave out on a draft horse shoe in Boise last Thursday

Everyone says to buy the new composite handles, but I'm sticking with wood because the feel is just better for my swing. Anyone have a good source for hickory replacements that won't warp after a wet winter?

My buddy's hickory handle cracked after one season in his damp shop. He found a guy at the county fair who sells wood dried for years, and that one's held up. Maybe check if any local craft fairs have a woodworker with old stock?

My uncle had a whole stack of walnut in his barn that sat for a decade. He finally gave some to a guy who makes guitars, and the guy said it was the most stable wood he'd ever worked with. Made me realize most stuff you buy at the big box store is basically still wet. That county fair guy probably has a goldmine in his shed.
