My anvil stand gave out mid-shoe yesterday
I was finishing a front shoe for a big Percheron cross, about three hammer blows from done. The whole wooden stand just cracked right down the middle and the anvil tipped over. Had to scramble to catch the shoe and the horse before anything got stepped on. Ended up having to finish the clinch with the anvil on the ground, which was a pain. Anyone got a good plan for a steel stand that won't do that?

Oh man, that is some seriously bad luck! Your stand picked the WORST possible second to quit on you. At least you got some free deadlift practice catching that shoe, right? I bet that Percheron was just standing there judging your whole setup. For a steel stand, just get some heavy wall square tubing and weld up a simple box, then bolt or weld a thick plate on top. Fill the tubing with sand or concrete if you want it to stop moving for good.
