Serious question, how long did it take you to realize you were trimming the wrong foot?

I was halfway through a hoof on a client's quarter horse in Bend when the owner casually asked if I always started with the right hind on a horse that's left-legged.

Man, that hits close to home. I had a nearly identical moment with a big paint gelding a few years back. I was focused on a crack in his hoof wall and just went into autopilot, completely blanking on which leg he favored. His owner watched me for a solid ten minutes before politely clearing his throat. In my experience, it's always the quiet clients who catch you when your brain checks out halfway through the job. That flush of heat to your face is a feeling you don't forget.

Oh man, @henrygrant, that's the worst feeling. That quiet throat clear from a client is like a bucket of cold water. You're just zoned in on the work, and then you realize you've been doing the wrong thing while someone silently judges you. It's like your brain just took a coffee break without telling you. The embarrassment is so real and so instant. I swear it happens to everyone at least once.
