Appreciation post: My design prof tore my 'deconstructed denim' project apart in a 3-hour critique last Tuesday. It was brutal but I learned more than in a whole semester.

Yeah, "rough" is putting it nicely. I'm basically the cautionary tale you warn people about. But hey, at least the lessons stick for life.

Read an article about a fashion school in Antwerp. Their critique sessions last all day. Students have to defend every single stitch choice. Reminds me of what taylor82 said about lessons sticking for life. That kind of pressure forces you to know your work inside out. My friend's portfolio got ripped up over pocket placement. She can now talk for an hour about the philosophy of a pocket.
