My sketchbook hit 100 pages and it made me rethink everything about color

I was just flipping through my old drawings (from a project I started in Portland last fall) and realized I filled the entire thing. For months I stuck to safe neutrals, but page 87 has this wild coral and olive green combo that actually works. Has anyone else hit a personal milestone that flipped a design rule for them?

My old apartment had exactly 23 of those little paint sample cards taped to the wall. I was trying to pick a white for three weeks. Last year I finally used a bright mustard yellow in a client's living room and it completely changed how I see warm colors. Now I keep a jar of mustard on my desk to remind me that safe is often just boring. Hitting that page count forces you to try things because you run out of your usual ideas.

Used to think white was the only safe choice for walls. That mustard yellow story actually makes a lot of sense now. Keeping the jar as a reminder is a great idea.
