Shoutout to the guy at the fabric store who convinced me to try pleats
Honestly, I was totally against pleats for years, ever since I tried to make a pair of trousers back in college and it was a total mess. I swore them off completely. Then last week, I was at the big fabric warehouse in the city looking for some linen, and this older guy cutting my yardage just casually said, 'You know, the trick is to baste them first, press them flat, then stitch. Makes all the difference.' I went home and tried it on a simple skirt pattern I had, using some cheap cotton to test. Ngl, I spent like 3 hours just on the pleating process, but when I pressed that final seam and saw how sharp and clean it looked, I was sold. It completely changed the drape of the whole piece. Has anyone else had a simple tip from a stranger totally flip your view on a technique?

What's your go-to method for basting them? I always use a long stitch and cheap thread.
