Tried designing a jacket with recycled plastic fabric versus organic cotton last month

I made two samples, one from a new recycled polyester blend and one from a heavy organic cotton canvas. The plastic fabric looked stiff and felt weirdly cold to the touch, even after washing it three times. The cotton, though, had a natural drape and broke in perfectly after just a week of wear. It completely changed how I think about sustainable materials. Anyone else find that some 'eco' fabrics just don't perform?

That cold, stiff feeling from recycled plastic is a dead giveaway. It's like the material never forgets its past life as a bottle. The weird part is how it messes with the whole idea of a garment getting better with age. A good cotton jacket becomes yours over time, but that polyester just stays sort of hostile. Makes you wonder if durability is the only thing that matters.

Yeah exactly, it's like the jacket is holding a grudge against you for wearing it. Abby_henderson you nailed it with the hostile thing, it never softens up. I've got this one raincoat that feels like it's judging me every time I put it on. They keep telling us recycled is the future but nobody talks about how weird the stuff feels. Guess we're supposed to just be happy our old soda bottles are giving us the cold shoulder.

It's just a jacket, not a moral crisis.
