Clay soil broke my hand digging habit for good
I used to swear by manual post hole diggers. Thought they kept costs low. Took a fence job on pure clay last fall. Each hole felt like digging through cement. My crew was dragging by noon. We finished two days behind schedule. I rented a power auger for the next project. Cut our digging time by seventy percent. Never looking back.

Look at how power augers can pack the clay down real tight. They save time but might make the soil too hard for roots later on. Maybe it's just me but that's a trade off to think about.

Wait, your neighbor's whole garden failed? That's crazy. I've seen some packed down spots before but a total loss is next level. Did he try to fix it or just give up? That's a lot of time and money down the drain for a few minutes saved with the auger.

Remember when those instant coffee makers came out and everyone traded taste for speed? It's the same thing with power augers. We get the job done fast but pay for it later when nothing grows right. How many times do we swap long term health for a little convenience now? My neighbor's whole garden failed because he packed the soil too hard with his new tool. Makes you wonder if saving time is always worth the cost.
