My neighbor told me to add more salt to my first kraut batch

He said to use 2 tablespoons per head of cabbage. I did it but the jar got way too salty. Tasted awful. Had to toss the whole thing after a week. Anyone know a better salt ratio for beginners?

Yeah, 2 tablespoons per head is wild, that would make inedible salt soup. My first try I used a full cup of salt for like three cabbages because I mixed up the recipe. It was like licking the ocean, just awful. I had to throw out way too much expensive produce. Now I just weigh everything and do 2% salt by weight, it works every time.

Feel your pain, that's a brutal amount of salt. Try 1.5 teaspoons per pound of cabbage next time.
