Can we talk about the time my foreman told me my core prints looked like a toddler's sandcastle?
He was right... I was rushing the facing sand on a set of 12-inch gear blanks and the edges were all crumbly. Now I wet the sand a bit more and pack it in three layers, not two. What's the dumbest piece of advice that actually fixed your work?

My old boss said to tap the mold with a screwdriver handle, which sounded stupid but got rid of air pockets.

Honestly that sounds like pretty normal shop feedback, not some life changing fix. Most of the time those little tips are just about finding what works for you. I wouldn't call it dumb advice, just basic trial and error.

Spot the same thing with all kinds of basic life skills. People act like there's some secret knowledge, but it's mostly just showing up and trying stuff.
