Our old core shooter went down hard last Thursday, and the boss wanted to scrap it.

It's a 1980s machine, and the main hydraulic line blew out, spraying fluid everywhere. I argued we could rebuild the pump assembly for about $800 in parts instead of buying a $15k replacement. Has anyone else fought to keep an old machine running when management just wants to toss it?

Holy cow, $15k for a new one?! That's insane! I see that all the time, where the bean counters only look at the price tag for a whole new unit. They never add up all the downtime and training for a new machine. Good on you for fighting to fix the real problem. An $800 fix on a solid old machine is a total no-brainer.

Totally get your fight to save the old gear. Johnson.caleb is right about them ignoring the real costs. Did you have to show them the math on paper to get them to listen?
