Rant: Our eco-friendly flux experiment made the whole place smell like a candy factory
We tried this new flux made from recycled fruit pits to cut down on fumes. During a bronze pour, it started smoking and gave off a sweet, syrupy smell. People from other parts of the building kept popping in to ask if we were making dessert. The castings turned out okay, but we spent the rest of the day explaining we weren't running a bakery.

Wait, you were using recycled fruit pits in a metal shop?

Worry about the safety side of things when weird smells show up... like @hannah_williams pointing out how strange fruit pits in a shop is, a sweet smell could make people ignore a real hazard. That candy smell might cover up other fumes you should actually be worried about. Someone might not notice a real problem because they're just thinking about dessert. It seems funny until you consider someone could get hurt missing a warning sign.
