Saw something off at the old Franklin Foundry site yesterday

They're demoing the old cupola furnace and the crew wasn't wearing proper respirators. Just basic dust masks. The silica dust cloud was thick. Anyone know the regs for demo crews on historic sites like that?

Silica dust is no joke, my uncle got really sick from that.

My buddy worked with concrete and got a bad cough that wouldn't go away. @johnson.jade is right, that stuff sneaks up on you. He's okay now but had to change jobs.

Whoa hold on, is it really that common though? I mean yeah silica dust is bad but I see guys working with concrete all day every day and they're fine. Seems like your buddy might've just been unlucky or had something else going on. Not saying it can't happen but I think people blow it out of proportion sometimes. There's dust in a million different jobs and not everyone gets sick from it. Maybe it's more about how much you breathe in over time or if you already have weak lungs. I'm just saying don't scare everyone off a trade over one guy's bad experience.
