Found a weird fix for orange peel texture with a potato

Was spraying a tabletop and got that ugly orange peel effect. In a panic, I rubbed a cut potato over the surface before it dried. Somehow it smoothed things out, and now I keep a spud in my toolbox for emergencies. Your mileage may vary, but it worked for me this once.

Wondering if the spud juice creates some weird chemical thing with the paint.

That weird chemical thing reminds me of potato stains, hard to scrub out.

Where did you even hear about using a potato for paint fixes? I read somewhere that potatoes have stuff in them that can break down surfaces. @oscar_fox mentioned chemical things, and that makes sense because potato juice might react with wet paint. It probably messes with the paint's texture before it hardens. But I feel like this could go wrong and ruin the finish after a while. You would need to try it on scrap wood first to see if it holds up.
