Do you have any suggestions on forums that are still active that we can just chat ad-free to each other. it seems like this is a dying breed.

Haha richardknight nailed it with that payphone comparison. I've been looking for an active ad-free forum lately and it feels like I'm hunting for a VHS rewinder at a thrift store. I found this one old-school gardening forum that's still kicking but you have to wade through pages of dead threads from 2018 to find anyone who's alive. Honestly my best luck has been with tiny niche communities that are so obscure they haven't been bought out yet, like a woodworking site with like 12 active members.
