I finally asked my sister why she never calls me first

We were at her place in Denver last weekend, and she said it's because I always sound annoyed when I answer. I never realized my 'hello' came across that way, but now I'm replaying every phone call. Do you think your phone voice matches how you feel inside?

Consider asking your sister to describe your exact tone. Sometimes we need that specific feedback to really hear ourselves.

Read a blog post once about how our own voice sounds different inside our heads. The writer said we often don't hear the sharpness or the dismissive sound that others pick up on. Asking for that exact playback from someone you trust, like a sister, can be a real eye opener. It forces you to confront the gap between your intention and the actual delivery. That kind of specific feedback is the only way some people can start to make a change.

My friend had the same wake-up call, and @torres.pat is right about that gap between intention and delivery. She recorded herself saying hello a few times and was shocked by her own tone.
