I read that the biggest single crystal ever found was a beryl over 18 meters long

I mean, I was just looking up stuff about giant crystals and found this on a museum website. It said a single crystal of beryl from Madagascar was over 59 feet long. That's like the size of a bus, just one solid piece of mineral. Idk why but I always pictured the biggest crystals being maybe person-sized. Has anyone seen a picture of that thing or know where it ended up?

Yeah, I saw a documentary that talked about that exact beryl crystal. They said it was found in a pegmatite, which is like a rock formation known for growing huge crystals. @blair_allen is right about the moving problem, because the show said they actually had to cut it into three pieces just to get it out of the ground. It's in a museum in Madagascar now, but I've never found a good picture that really shows the scale. Makes you wonder what other giant crystals are still buried out there that we haven't found yet.

Yeah, that's the kind of thing that makes you realize how small we are. Imagine trying to move that thing. You'd need a whole crew and some serious gear just to get it off the ground. Bet the shipping cost was more than my truck. Wonder if they had to build the museum around the crystal, because I can't picture a door big enough.
