Just found out the Appalachian Mountains are way older than I thought

I was reading an old geology textbook from a yard sale and it said the Appalachians started forming around 480 million years ago. That's older than the Atlantic Ocean. I always figured big mountains like that were maybe 100 million years old tops. The book said they've been worn down so much they're basically the roots of the original mountains. It makes you think about how long rock can last. Does anyone know other mountain ranges that are actually older than they look?

Yeah, @nancy_davis75 is right, they're ancient. The Scottish Highlands are another crazy old one.

Wow, they actually started forming even earlier, like 500 million years ago.
