The cash envelope system failed me during a midnight snack run
Physical money management collapses when you're craving pizza at 2 AM!

Midnight snack runs are the Achilles' heel of any cash system, according to a podcast I listened to. The host argued that willpower depletion after midnight makes envelopes useless. Honestly, it's why I keep a hidden twenty for emergencies like pizza.

That hidden twenty is such a lifesaver, honestly. There's something about 1 AM that transforms rational thought, and a cold pizza slice from the fridge or a gas station taquito suddenly becomes a non-negotiable need. My envelope for "dining out" is always sealed and forgotten by that hour. The crumpled bill in the glove box feels like a pardon from my own daytime budgeting rules. It's less about the cash system failing and more about understanding our future-selves will be different, hungrier people.

Actually a strict cash system should cover those weak moments. If you budget for pizza at 2 am then it's not really a failure.
