Hot take: Running at 5 AM is my answer to bad management...
My boss is always on my back about tiny details... it drives me nuts. So I get up at 5 AM and run for an hour. The quiet streets help me sort out my thoughts. I plan my day and let go of the frustration. When I get to my desk, I'm ready for his nonsense. Those runs are my secret weapon against burnout. Without them, I'd be a mess at work... seriously.

I always thought 5 AM runs were too extreme. After reading what @briancooper said about the mental buffer, it really clicked for me. That morning control must be why you can handle the day so much better.

Wow, that mental buffer idea is so real. A friend of mine had this awful boss who would send rage emails first thing every morning. She started getting up early just to lift weights in her garage, like @the_amy said, to take back control. She told me it didn't make the boss better, but it put this wall up in her mind so the junk just bounced off. It totally changed her whole day, she stopped dreading checking her phone. That hour let her walk in already feeling like she won.

Man that's such a good way to frame it. Taking back control of your own headspace before you even walk in the door is huge. It's like you're building a mental buffer between his nonsense and your own peace of mind. That hour to just grind it out and let stuff go must make all the difference, turning what could be a reactive day into one you're steering yourself. Really smart move honestly.
