After catching bits of a sci-fi pod through my ceiling, I found the host in the lobby.
He's cool with listeners pitching in, but what's a good topic to bring up first?

Skip the sci-fi and ask about building codes.

Start by calling your local building office before you plan anything. Their code amendments can be way stricter than the basic international rules. Trust me, finding out late costs time and money.

The Three-Body Problem's dark forest theory is a solid opener. It leads to deep talk about alien contact and human nature. Way more engaging than dry rules for a first chat.
