After sketching starships for years, I see a huge flaw in most designs

I've been drawing spaceships as a hobby since I was a kid. Many sci-fi shows design them to look awesome but ignore simple physics, which breaks the story for me. Am I too harsh, or do others care about this too?

That huge bridge window on top of the ship. It's basically a giant "shoot here" target in a real fight.

Know what you mean... that window is a disaster. Always thought the same.

Absolutely spot on about the physics thing. Drives me nuts when ships have all these pointless fins and wings in space, like, what's the point? Remember that classic show where the bridge was just a glass bubble on the front? How did anyone think that was a good idea? After years of doodling my own designs, I always put the command deep inside, wrapped in armor. Makes you wonder if the artists ever talk to engineers, right?
