I finally chose to eat alone at fancy restaurants while traveling.

On my solo trip to Tokyo, I made a point to have dinner at a high-end sushi bar by myself. It pushed me out of my comfort zone and I ended up having a deep chat with the chef, which never would've happened with a group. Do you think solo diners get better service or is it just in my head?

Honestly getting a seat at the bar by yourself can be a game changer. Chefs and staff seem to have more time for you, I've had some great chats that way. It feels like a more personal experience for sure.

Read somewhere that solo diners at the bar often get extra attention because they're seen as regulars in the making. Makes sense, right? The staff isn't rushing to turn the table for the next group. It turns a quick meal into something way more interesting.

Whoa hold up, chefs are usually in the KITCHEN! The magic is really from the bartender. They're right there with you, making drinks and not running food to tables. You get their full attention, which is how you learn about the good off-menu stuff or what's REALLY fresh. It's a better chat anyway because they know the whole menu and all the gossip.
