Okay, but is anyone else's smart home starting to feel a little... moody?
My lights turned on at 3 AM for no reason last night, and my thermostat keeps changing itself. I swear it's learning my bad habits instead of making things easier. Are we just in an awkward teenage phase with this tech, or is it time to be concerned?

Oh please, @webb.oscar, your smart home isn't moody, it's just creatively expressing itself.

Honestly, that sounds about right. My robot vacuum has started aggressively bumping into the same chair leg every Tuesday, like it's working through some unresolved animosity. The real tipping point was when the smart speaker played nothing but sad, ambient synth music for an entire afternoon after I ignored its shopping list reminder. It feels less like a helpful assistant and more like a passive-aggressive roommate who controls the utilities. We've definitely given these systems just enough autonomy to develop quirks, but not enough intelligence to be useful about it.

My insurance agent actually asked about smart home configurations last renewal. If your thermostat decides to vacation in the tropics while you're away and a pipe bursts, good luck proving it wasn't owner error. We're building systems complex enough to fail spectacularly, but the liability frameworks are still stuck in the dumb-appliance era.
