One bad week with a knob and tube electrician cost me $3,200 in rewiring

Honestly, I thought I could save money by keeping some of the old knob and tube wiring in my East York semi. Big mistake. The electrician I hired for a simple outlet swap found three live abandoned wires hidden behind plaster in the dining room. That discovery turned a $200 job into a full weekend of emergency rewiring across two floors. He had to cut holes in four walls to trace everything out. Took him 12 hours over two days to make it safe. Has anyone else dealt with hidden knob and tube surprises in an older Toronto house?

Did the electrician at least give you a heads-up that poking around old knob and tube could snowball that bad, or did he just drop the bomb when he found the live wires?

Figure electricians just like making things sound worse than they are for the bill.
