Can we talk about how sibling rivalries can obscure clues in cold cases?
I was reading about this old case where the victim's brother gave inconsistent statements for years. It turns out their childhood competition made him withhold key information out of spite. That really changed how I view witness reliability.

Seriously, withholding evidence out of sibling rivalry is a whole new level of messed up. From what I've seen, family tensions can distort memories, but this is deliberate obstruction. It's no wonder cold cases stay cold with dynamics like that.

According to a 2020 study on witness testimony, over 30% of family witnesses in cold cases report fear as their main reason for silence. Imo, that points to self-preservation more than rivalry. Sibling stuff can be a factor, but it's usually tangled up with guilt and loyalty. Cops have to deal with that mess, which is why investigations drag. Calling it deliberate obstruction is too simplistic. Human psychology is way more nuanced than that.

What if that rivalry cameronm41 mentioned is mostly fear in disguise?
