My family's potluck policy is creating two camps: bring-a-dish traditionalists versus order-in modernists.

For our annual reunion, some relatives insist on homemade dishes to maintain tradition, while others prefer catering for convenience and variety. This divide has caused tension and discussions about what truly makes a family event special. Is it the effort of homemade food or the ease of professional catering that encourages better gatherings?

Kinda wild how everyone's arguing about food but not about inclusion. Forcing homemade dishes might mean fewer people can participate, especially those with busy schedules or no kitchen skills. A mix could let everyone contribute in their own way.

Beyond that, it's about valuing presence over perfection... always.

Honestly, my cousin once brought store-bought pie to Thanksgiving and my grandma pretended it was homemade to keep peace. That little white lie actually made everyone focus more on catching up than criticizing the food. Tbh, sometimes the best family memories come from letting go of strict rules.
