Back from Amsterdam, I'm debating imported plants for my roof garden.

On my trip, I saw amazing Dutch tulips and wanted to bring bulbs home for my garden. Some friends say it's fine to add exotic plants for beauty. Others warn it could harm local bugs and soil. What's your take on using plants from other places in city gardens?

My garden is basically a hospice for local plants, so imported ones might actually be safer from me.

Last year, I managed to lose five native ferns in as many weeks. It's a real talent to turn a garden into a plant hospice, but I feel you. Imported varieties often seem to handle my neglect better, maybe because they're used to surviving in harsher places. My aloe vera from a big box store has outlived every local plant I've tried to grow. So yeah, imported might be the way to go for folks like us.

That "hospice for local plants" line is painfully real... but it makes me wonder what's actually happening in your garden. Is it the soil, or maybe the light that's off? I get that imported plants can be tougher sometimes, but local ones should ideally be suited to the area. So what's going wrong for yours specifically, do you figure? It seems like there's a specific reason they keep checking out early.
