Is it really whistleblowing if the leaker signed ten NDAs?

I keep seeing people call every leaked document a brave act, but what about that engineer at Lockheed who leaked specs to a competitor for cash - where do we draw the line between public good and just breaking a promise you signed in 2019?

Add onto what daniel552 said about the deal being a deal part. The line gets drawn when the promise you signed was to shut up about something that could hurt people. If an NDA is covering up a safety defect in a plane or a toxic spill, breaking it is different than selling secrets to a competitor for a quick payday. One is about keeping a business agreement, the other is about protecting people from real harm.

Totally agree, it's like people forget a deal is a deal unless it exposes something criminal.
